Schlager Group began operations in 1997. In the subsequent decade the company produced numerous reference sources for other publishers, including several award winners. Among these were large-scale, multivolume works that required dozens--in some cases, hundreds--of writers and editors, including the seven-volume Science and Its Times: Understanding the Social Significance of Scientific Discovery (Gale, 2000-01), Scribner Encyclopedia of American Lives (Charles Scribner's Sons, 2000-07), Crusades Reference Library (UXL, 2005), and World Encyclopedia of Political Systems and Parties (Facts On File, 2006). Our clients have included Gale, Facts On File, and Oxford University Press.
In 2007 we launched our own independent publishing imprint with the Milestone Documents series of reference sets. The sets have garnered several Outstanding Academic Title citations from Choice magazine as well as two Booklist Editor's Choice awards.
In 2010 we created MilestoneDocuments.com to allow individual students and educators to access our content on a subscription basis. In 2011, we began offering adoption service for faculty that want to assign our site as a primary source reader or textbook alternative for courses in history, American studies, political science, and religious studies.
