Neil is a graduate of Southern Methodist University (B.A., history and Ibero-American studies) and the University of Denver Publishing Institute. After a long career with the Gale Group, during which he served as managing editor of the Multicultural Team and senior editor of New Product Development, he founded Schlager Group in 1997.

Marcia Merryman-Means

Marcia graduated from the University of California (Santa Cruz), earning a B.A. in aesthetic studies, with minors in history and anthropology/archaeology. She went on to obtain an M.A. in art history from Columbia University. Later, she studied early childhood education at the Waldorf Institute (now Sunbridge College) in Chestnut Ridge, New York. As a freelancer, she has worked variously as copy editor, developmental editor, project manager, writer, and researcher for such clients as Raven Press, Lippincott Williams and Wilkins, Gale Group (Scribner/Macmillan), John Wiley and Sons, the Anthroposophic Press, McGraw-Hill, Shambhala Publications, Inner Traditions, the American College of Physicians, and the Museum of Holography. She also has worked on staff for Time Warner (at Sports Illustrated and Fortune magazines). She joined Schlager Group in 2003.
Andrea Betts

Andrea graduated from Southern Methodist University with a B.A. in English and political science and minor in Spanish. As a John G. Tower fellow, she conducted research on the U.S. Supreme Court's role in federalism. She also served on committees that approved new courses and changes to degree programs. She has worked as a freelance writer, editor, and consultant. She joined Schlager Group in 2007.
Benjamin Painter

Ben graduated from Southern Methodist University with a B.A. in English, creative writing specialization, and minor in political science. While at SMU, he facilitated the largest expansion of the university’s creative writing community in decades. He served as vice president of the International English Honor Society (Sigma Tau Delta), vice president of the SMU Writers’ Group, and festival coordinator for SMU’s premier literary festival. He has also completed coursework in literature and international politics at University College, Oxford University. Ben joined Schlager Group in 2009.

Becki is a 23-year veteran of the classroom and has taught in both Advanced Placement and International Baccalaureate programs. She earned a B.S. in secondary social studies education and an M.Ed. in curriculum and supervision from Wright State University in Dayton, Ohio, and has extensive experience writing curriculum that correlates to state standards. She has published and presented for the Ohio Council for the Social Studies, served on its executive board, and participated in the National Humanities Foundation Seminar in Learning. Becki joined Schlager Group in 2009.

Erica graduated cum laude from the University of Texas at Dallas with a B.A. in literary studies. She has written training curricula and technical solutions for Fedex Office, and she was also a founding member of the metrics committee, implemented to maximize efficiency with shrinking resources. She piloted new support functions as well, such as self-serve and chat. She has also worked as a freelance writer and editor. Erica joined Schlager Group in 2009.
